Canva has introduced a new tool called Canva Magic Write, a feature that leverages artificial intelligence (AI) technology to aid in content creation. 

Like ChatGPT, Canva Magic Write generates text based on the user’s prompts. It can help users create drafts, summaries, social media posts, and more.

Availability and Cost

This AI-powered feature is free to use. However, on a free Canva account, users are limited to 25 queries. To get additional queries, you’ll need a Canva Pro account.

What sets Canva’s Magic Write apart is its integration with Canva’s visual-first design tools. Users have the flexibility to simultaneously design and write, providing a more holistic and powerful approach than conventional tools like Google Docs or Word.

How to Use Canva Magic Write

1. Log in to your Canva account.
2. Navigate to Canva Doc. If you can’t find it, search for Doc.
3. Once you’re in Doc, you can see a list of templates. To start from scratch, click on Create a Blank Doc.
4. To activate Magic Write, simply type in your title or prompt. For example, \”Five Productivity Tips for Entrepreneurs\”.
5. To activate Magic Write, click the little Plus icon to bring up commands. Select Magic Write.
6. A window will pop up for you to enter your prompt. Once you enter the prompt and hit enter, it generates the content.
7. The AI-generated content is highlighted. Click away to remove the highlight and read the content.

Magic Write can also suggest catchy titles for your articles or posts, leveraging the power of AI.

Execute Canva Magic Write

Apart from using the Plus icon, you can execute Magic Write by using a command. Simply press / on your keyboard, type in ‘magic’, and hit enter.

Alongside Magic Write, you can make use of Canvas visual design tools to enhance your content. You can add elements, upload your own media, add photos, and arrange them as needed. This feature makes Canva Doc unique and more powerful.

Upcoming Features

Canva plans to introduce a few upcoming features: 

• Paraphrasing Tool that rephrases the content
• Summary Generator that condenses content.

These features will enable you to focus more on editing, making the writing process more efficient.

Canva Magic Write: Limitations 

Magic Write and similar AI writing tools are powered by OpenAI’s GPT-3, trained on data up to mid-2021. This might result in some inaccuracies, especially for content that requires up-to-date information. For instance, if you’re in finance and need the latest financial stats, the AI might not have this data.

Nevertheless, Magic Write is intended to assist with writing, particularly useful when experiencing writer’s block. It isn’t meant to replace manual content creation but to facilitate it. Despite its limitations, Magic Write is a valuable addition to Canva’s suite of features.
